Agatha Ruiz de la Prada: fashion designer and product designer
Born in Madrid in 1960, the 12th Marchioness of Castelldosríus, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada graduated from the School of Fashion Arts and Techniques in Barcelona. The daughter of one of Spain's most renowned architects, who also ran a furniture design company, she entered the fashion world in 1981. Her partnership with the El Corte Inglés department store brought rapid nationwide distribution, followed by international recognition through catwalk shows and exhibitions, notably in Paris.
Colour as a means of expression, and a love of simplicity
Agatha Ruiz de la Prada describes herself as passionate about contemporary art, mindful of environmental issues and attached to a certain consistency in her life. Her favourite colour is fuchsia. She speaks of a long friendship with Karim Rashid, one of whose pieces she would happily have in her home, and who even helped promote her New York shop. A keen cleaner and tidier, she spends her free time reading and walking her dogs.
The collection designed by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada for Vondom
For Vondom, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada designed her first collection for children, the Vondom Agatha collection, made up of a flower pot, a table and a mini chair. True to the designer's signature codes (simple, soft, clean shapes drawn from the world of childhood), this playful, upbeat collection expresses itself through flower and heart motifs.
