Jorge Pensi: designer and architect
Born in Buenos Aires in 1946, Jorge Pensi studied architecture in his home city before leaving Argentina in 1975 to settle in Barcelona, where he became a Spanish citizen. In 1977 he went into partnership with Alberto Lievore until 1984, the year he founded his own studio in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. In 1988 he designed the Toledo chair, which became a worldwide reference of Spanish design and the first aluminium chair designed for outdoor use. His career was recognised in 1997 with the National Design Award, the highest distinction granted by the Spanish government.
An approach both playful and rigorous
Jorge Pensi simply describes himself as someone who enjoys designing attractive objects. His relationship with colour depends entirely on use: black for clothing, white for tableware, a wider spectrum for other objects. A fan of thrillers, he says he hates noise and composes music in his spare time. Above all, he believes in perseverance and hard work to come closer to perfect objects, while acknowledging that the end result never quite gets there.
The collection designed by Jorge Pensi for Vondom
For Vondom, Jorge Pensi designed the Vondom Delta collection, in die-cast and extruded aluminium, which plays on the tension between realism and surrealism in a timeless style.
