An Italian restaurant in the land of the northern lights
Tromsø, a Norwegian city three hundred kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, was not the most obvious destination for an Italian restaurant inspired by Art Deco. Yet that is where La Famiglia chose to settle, in an atmosphere that owes much to the interior work of the studio Niche Norway.
The venue's bet is a bold one: to summon the glamour of the 1920s, those roaring years of prosperity, parties and eccentricity, under the Arctic sky. To pull off this atmospheric transposition, one decorative element was chosen as the central signature: the Vondom Gatsby lamp.
Niche Norway's signature lighting
Rather than piling up references to the period, the studio Niche Norway opted for demanding restraint. The strong gesture is concentrated on the table, where guests spend most of their time: one lamp per table, designed by Ramón Esteve for Vondom.
The rest of the decor supports without overloading: fine materials, a palette of deep shades, simple furniture. This approach by subtraction allows each Gatsby lamp to become the focal point of each table, with no visual competition.

The Gatsby lamp, a sculptural object
The Gatsby lamp is one of Ramón Esteve's most expressive creations for Vondom. Its silhouette plays on a specific material effect: the surface reproduces the visual sensations of engraved glass, with facets that multiply the light.
The result is a warm, enveloping, almost vibrating light. The light does not shine out in a beam but seems to emanate from the piece itself, as if the object held its own source. This is exactly what a restaurant looks for when it wants to create an intimate atmosphere at every table without dramatising the whole room.

A nod to the Roaring Twenties
The name of the collection is no accident. Gatsby immediately evokes Fitzgerald's imagination, the discreet luxury of Long Island evenings, the restrained splendour of an era that did not see itself in excess. Ramón Esteve has captured this spirit in a silhouette that never refers to it directly but recreates its emotional temperature.
For an Italian restaurant located beyond the Arctic Circle, this choice takes on an almost romantic dimension. In a few hours of service, the lamp brings something of the Mediterranean into the long Scandinavian nights, through the sheer grace of well-designed light.

When a single object shapes an atmosphere
The La Famiglia project strikes us as exemplary in more ways than one. It proves that a single piece of furniture or lighting, well chosen and repeated, can be enough to define the identity of an entire space. There is no need to fit out a restaurant from cellar to ceiling for it to acquire a visual signature.
At Verano Design, we often support restaurateurs who are looking for this kind of strong gesture without an unlimited budget. Vondom's Gatsby lamp is one of those objects that make this strategy possible: a controlled investment, multiplied by the number of covers, for a major decorative impact.
