Eugeni Quitllet: designer
Born on 17 April 1972 in Ibiza, the Ibiza-born designer Eugeni Quitllet graduated from the La Llotja art school in Barcelona. His creative vocabulary goes beyond the simple relationship between function and style to reveal innovative objects, somewhere between drawing, sculpture and contemporary archaeology: he literally uncovers silhouettes hidden in the material, visually pared-back pieces that play skilfully with solid and void, often with a touch of humour.
An "industrial dreamer" who never stops drawing
Eugeni Quitllet describes himself as someone who "fishes for ideas", an "industrial dreamer" from Ibiza. For him, plastic stands above all for innovation, the very foundation of his ideas, while his favourite colour remains that of the sea and the earth. His favourite object is the chair, which he describes as an object made for talking, working and dreaming. Asked what he does outside design, his answer sums up his relationship with the craft: he keeps drawing. It is a philosophy he also expresses through his preference for "better" over "perfect", convinced that one can always do better than perfect.
