Vondom furniture beneath Calatrava's vault

The Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is one of the most visited architectural complexes in Spain. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the Valencian complex brings together several iconic buildings with pure, white, almost organic silhouettes. The Museo de las Ciencias Príncipe Felipe is its centrepiece, with a structure that evokes a whale skeleton.

The museum's interior esplanade regularly hosts receptions, cocktail parties and large-scale business events. For this demanding space, Vondom created an event layout conceived in the same vein as the architecture: sculptural, contemporary, with a confident presence that never steals the show from the setting that hosts it.

The Fiesta collection for welcoming and serving

At the heart of the set-up is the Fiesta event bar, designed by the studio Archirivolto Design. This modular line was designed specifically for hospitality uses: cocktails, product launches, private views, VIP receptions. The modules assemble and reconfigure to suit the format of the event, with no heavy logistical constraints.

Alongside Fiesta, the Vela catering counter by Ramón Esteve completes the service equipment. The prismatic geometry of the Vela collection and its flat volumes create a striking illusion: the furniture seems to float slightly above the ground, in dialogue with the undulations of Calatrava's building.

Frame tables, the art of minimalism

So that guests can enjoy canapés and drinks with ease, high standing tables from the Frame collection have been installed between the service counters. Ramón Esteve designed this collection by cultivating what characterises all his work: harmony, serenity and essentiality.

The Frame high tables stand out for their pure geometric silhouette, without superfluous ornament. They structure the space fluidly, creating natural gathering points without hindering circulation. This formal restraint works wonders in a place where the architecture already commands a powerful visual presence.

A dialogue between design and architecture

Vondom, whose headquarters and factory are in Beneixída, around fifty kilometres from the museum, claims this Valencian roots as a point of pride. The geographic proximity to Calatrava's work gives this project an almost emblematic dimension: two contemporary Spanish signatures meeting on the soil that saw them born.

The formal fit between the pieces and the building is no coincidence. The bold volumes of the Fiesta, Vela and Frame collections answer Calatrava's grammar of controlled curves, whiteness and a constant search for lightness. The furniture does not fade into the background, it converses.

A showcase for contemporary Spanish design

Equipping a cultural site of this scale is as much a technical exercise as a symbolic gesture. The Museo de las Ciencias welcomes more than two million visitors a year and many private events. The chosen furniture thus becomes one of the public's first contacts with a certain idea of contemporary Spanish design: bold, functional and deeply rooted in its territory.

At Verano Design, we see this project as a perfect illustration of the Vondom philosophy: outdoor furniture able to equip a private terrace and an internationally significant cultural institution alike, without ever losing relevance or style.
