Mercadona is a major Spanish supermarket chain founded in 1977 by Juan Roig, headquartered in Valencia. The company stands out for its vertically integrated business model, which lets it control every aspect of the production and distribution of its products. It is also recognised for its commitment to sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. It currently has 1,628 stores in Spain and 42 in Portugal, with a workforce of 99,000 people focused on excellence, including 3,500 in Portugal.

Mercadona's headquarters covers 80,000 square metres. This large-scale architectural project stands out for its understated aesthetic and a multitude of outdoor spaces that promote employee wellbeing. The landscaped courtyards, at the heart of the complex, give headquarters staff a place to rest and recharge. They house outdoor furniture from Vondom, pieces selected to bring comfort and conviviality.

The Stones collection at the heart of the project

The Stones collection, designed by Stefano Giovannoni and Elisa Gargan, is the furniture installed in one of the outdoor spaces at Mercadona's headquarters. A collection with sinuous, elegant lines that evokes a sense of fluidity and harmony. Its versatile, timeless design lets it adapt to different styles and settings, bringing serenity and sophistication to any outdoor space.

A convivial space designed for the teams

To complement the Stones collection, an outdoor dining area has been created, with a set of tables and chairs designed to encourage socialising and enhance employee comfort.

The tables from the Faz collection, designed by Ramón Esteve, combine elegance and functionality. Their clean geometric lines capture the essence of sophisticated minimalism. The chairs from the Africa collection, designed by Eugeni Quitllet, offer boundless comfort, where ergonomics meets contemporary aesthetics. The variety of designs in this contract furniture set creates a perfect combination, giving rise to a versatile space: ideal for an informal meeting, a break, a moment of relaxation or a brainstorming session.

The furniture palette has been harmonised with the building's architecture to ensure continuity and colour consistency. The result is an understated elegance that radiates serenity and calm.

Stones planters as focal points

The large planters from the Stones collection complete the set by creating visual counterpoints: they catch the eye and make people aware of the greenery around them. The shared spaces, spread throughout the building, act as meeting points, encouraging and strengthening interaction, communication and collaboration between the different departments.

A project rooted in locality

This project was designed to keep its carbon footprint as low as possible: almost all the elements used are of local origin. That is why the choice fell on Vondom designer furniture, produced at its factory in Beneixida, Valencia, just a few kilometres from Mercadona's new headquarters.
