Stefano Giovannoni: industrial designer and architect
Born in La Spezia, Italy, in 1954, Stefano Giovannoni graduated in architecture from the University of Florence in 1978. He first taught architecture in Florence, then industrial design at the University of Genoa, before moving to Milan, where he now lives and works as an industrial designer, interior designer and architect, specialising in plastic products.
A deep attachment to plastic and its creative possibilities
Stefano Giovannoni values plastic precisely for what its name suggests: the possibility of creating shapes and concepts that are hard to achieve with any other material. He admits a preference for acid green, and an open passion for old science fiction films such as Blade Runner, Metropolis and 2001: A Space Odyssey, alongside the films of Quentin Tarantino and contemporary Italian directors. A perfectionist at heart, he has a number of rather particular habits, especially around music and his hi-fi system, a world on which he spends a good share of his personal budget.
Collections designed by Stefano Giovannoni for Vondom
For Vondom, Stefano Giovannoni designed the Vondom Solid collection, recognisable by its clean geometric cuts that look as if they were carved from stone. He also worked with designer Elisa Gargan on the Vondom Pillow collection, inspired by the soft shape of a cushion, and the Vondom Stone collection, with its pared-back mineral volumes.
