The craftsmanship of Jean-Marie Massaud
Designed by Jean-Marie Massaud, the Serra collection rests on a simple, powerful idea: a lattice of vertically tensioned cords, rhythmic, almost textile, that wraps around the seat without ever enclosing it. This contemporary screen filters views and light, creates a gentle sense of privacy and gives each piece a handcrafted presence rarely found in outdoor furniture.
The curve does the rest. Serra's volumes follow the body with the suppleness of a leaf bending in the wind, and the generous, deep cushions complete that feeling of immediate welcome. You sit down; you stay.
This language extends a line of research the French designer has pursued for several years: outdoor furniture that borrows from the landscape rather than from architecture. You find it in the Vondom Milos collection, where cement and wood echo rock shaped by the sea, and in the Vondom Pasadena collection, whose aluminium frames redraw the archetypes of the outdoor lounge. A collection that suits any architecture
The fluid forms of Serra make it a remarkably adaptable range. It softens the clean geometry of a contemporary terrace, blends naturally with the dry-stone walls of a Mediterranean villa, and comes into its own in a dense, green garden. This is not furniture that competes with the space: it is furniture that completes it.
The collection comprises a Vondom lounge chair and a modular Vondom sofa, a combination that works as well for a reading corner for two as for the large lounge area of a rooftop or an outdoor hotel lobby. This modularity makes it a relevant choice for hospitality projects, where the layout must adapt to the constraints of the venue rather than the other way round.
European manufacturing and outdoor durability
Serra is made in Spain, in the Valencia region, from materials selected for permanent outdoor use: resistant to UV, weather and heavy use. The collection keeps its looks season after season, on a private terrace as well as at a seaside resort exposed to sea spray.
The outdoor fabrics of the cushions are treated to be water-repellent, stain-resistant and mould-resistant; it is still best to store them under cover during a long winter. Routine care is limited to cleaning with warm soapy water, without abrasive products or a pressure washer on the cords.
