Africa sun lounger: the designer lounger honoured with the Good Design Award 2021

Facing the sea or beside the pools of hotels and beach clubs furnished by Verano Design, the Africa sun lounger embodies a philosophy dear to Eugeni Quitllet: the most original thing is to be simple.

A piece by Eugeni Quitllet, honoured with the Good Design Award

Eugeni Quitllet, a Catalan designer born in Ibiza and trained at La Llotja school in Barcelona, gives the Africa collection curves that follow the natural line of the body. This sun lounger perfectly illustrates his pursuit of comfort and pared-back form: recognised with the Good Design Award 2021 presented by The Chicago Athenaeum, it confirms the international standing of this piece in outdoor design.

Designed for heavy outdoor use

Fitted with built-in wheels, this sun lounger moves easily to follow the sun or to be put away at the end of the day, with no effort for the maintenance staff. Its adjustable backrest lets you set the angle for the head and upper body as needed, from lazing in the sun to reading. The textilene sling removes and replaces easily, a real advantage for extending the life of the furniture without changing the whole frame. Injection moulded in glass fibre reinforced polypropylene, it is UV-resistant and withstands temperatures from -60°C to +80°C, for year-round use with no change in colour. Stackable, it frees up valuable storage space in the off season, a practical advantage for hotels and beach clubs that need to make the most of their storerooms between seasons. Its fire resistance, certified UNE EN 1021, IMO A.652 and UNI 9175, meets the safety requirements for premises open to the public. A quick wipe with a sponge is enough to keep it looking its best, and it matches all the furniture in the Vondom Africa collection, from the bar stool to the modular sofa.
